The story
The Film released in 1987 film starred Jennifer Grey as the teenage baby who falls in love with the camp's  dance instructor was played by Patrick Swayze.  The teenager heroine falls for the camp's dancing instructor. She's middle class and well-to-do and he's working class. There is plenty of 60's nostalgia including the quaint acceptance of girls being called 'baby'. It was one of the most successful independent films of all time.

The stage version featuring live music has had the audience dancing in their seats for at least some of the running time 2hrs 30mins.  Eleanor Bergstein adapted her film for the theatre and said the show has everything from the film "and more."

Dirty Dancing has made a lot of money. It's emphasised in many of the write-ups - even boasting 11M advance sales which a year or so on was quoted as £12 million at the box office. There is no doubt the show has been popular.

The production
The dancing and singing are spectacular. Youthful and enthusiastic performances The show got good reviews all round (they quoted the Observer as saying it was "the biggest live theatre sensation of all time" (wow) and had an audience. of devotees from the film. The soundtrack - including the Oscar-winning (I've Had) The Time Of My Life - has sold more than 41 million copies.

Dirty Dancing stars are Josef Brown as Johnny Castle and Sarah Manton as Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman. Director - James Powell, choreography - Kate Champion.

It's soon to be extended to October 2009
