We Will Rock You
Story and script by Ben Elton in collaboration with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
The show's music consists entirely of Queen material.

This musical opened May 2002 at the Dominium which has a big seating capacity of 2000.
The critics all hated it dismissing it with sarcasm and faint praise for performers. Notwithstanding the press the demand for tickets surpassed expectations having celebrated its 6th anniversary as the longest running musical at that venue. It is now scheduled until October 2009.

It has had productions globally some of which are still running but it never appeared in the US except at a hotel in Las Vegas for a year. It is admittedly anti corporate and in line with the Queen ethos, as irreverent of the 'norm' as it should be.  In Russia it was pulled after 4 months despite massive protest from fans and the public.

The story

Set in a future where Rock music was seriously banned and instruments had been destroyed the planet's (one) government renamed Earth as 'Planet Mall' and brainwashed citizens to ga ga (computer generated) music. A visionary dreamer finds the last electric guitar and works with the 'underground' (literally) to reinstate feel and heart to popular music inspired by love. It is satirical throughout even sending up itself - the plot is a fun way to hear some of the Queen hits live.

The production
Millions were ploughed into this production and it is a spectacle of screens and lighting originally designed by Mark henderson. Willie Williams worked as the lighting designer, Williams & Fisher as co-video directors

Tony Vincent, Hannah Jane Fox, Sharon D. Clarke and Kerry Ellis were the original principal roles.
