The Lion King
Currently Disney's most popular animated musical. This adaptation of Disney's much-loved film transports audiences with a brilliant  explosion of wonderful colours, superb effects and lively music, with light, rhythmic songs.(by Elton John and Tim Rice, and a score by Hans Zimmer)

The story
Story of a lion cub's journey to adulthood and acceptance of his royal destiny. Simba (young voice - Jonathan Taylor Thomas, grown up voice - Matthew Broderick) begins life as an honored prince, son of the powerful King Mufasa (voice - James Earl Jones).

Simba's uncle Scar (voice - Jeremy Irons) murders his brother Mufasa and drives Simba away from the kingdom. In exile, the young lion befriends  Pumbaa the warthog (voice - Ernie Sabella) and Timon the meerkat (voice - Nathan Lane) and lives a carefree jungle life until he is visited by the spirit of his father, who instructs him to take back his rightful throne.

The production
Classical and African mythology combine with a combination of almost hypnotic visuals and  dancing won awards for choerography  by Garth Fagan and 'Best Costume Designer' by Julie Taymor . Set designer Richard Hudson and the inspired lighting team headed by Donald Holder, create a true spectacle.
