A note from the author

We put this AVMovie together (a compilation of still photos and video clips) to show off London theatres as they are seen most often by theatre goers – by night.

Thanks to Ben Shafik for his lighthearted and  informative commentary and Fionn O'Lochlainn for the original music.

Watch out for the new version with current liveries and the names of the theatres as they appear.

The Gist Without The Twist

The Mousetrap is a legend for several reasons Agatha Christie, the dame of detective thrillers (whodunits) was a legend in her own right.  The play has run in the same privately owned theatre for 56 years. During this long run there have been no fewer than 382 actors and actresses appearing in the play, master of suspense, plotting and characterisation

The story
A young couple, Mollie and Giles Ralston started up a new hotel in a converted old Manor. They get snowed in with four of their guests and an additional traveller, who ran his car into a snowdrift.

Detective Sergeant Trotter arrives on skis to inform the group that he believes a murderer is on his way to the hotel, following the death of a Londoner - one Miss Maureen Lyon.

Then one of the guests – Mrs Boyle – is killed. The suspense rises as they realize that the murderer is present among them.  Christopher Wren, a erratic young man fits the description of the supposed murderer. He is also somewhat volotile and unsettled.  He is the first to be suspected. The plot continues with the suspiscion falling on  each and any one of the guests, or even the hosts themselves.

Tradionally, the audience are asked not to tell anyone outside the theatre who the killer was so as not to spoil the play for others.
